Novelista, científico y funcionario de gobierno británico. Snow fue físico molecular en la Universidad de Cambridge durante 20 años y fue consejero científico del gobierno. Strangers and brothers [Extraños y hermanos] (1940–70), una serie de 11 novelas retrata a los burócratas y el carácter corruptor del poder. La serie incluye The Masters [Los maestros] (1951), The New Men [Los hombres nuevos] (1954) y Corridors of Power [Los pasillos de poder] (1964). En The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution [Las dos culturas y la revolución científica] (1959), así como en otros ensayos, medita sobre la separación cultural entre quienes practican la ciencia y la literatura.
